550 or 750?
#1
I have a dilemma. I currently have a pretty loaded '06 550 (leased) - I'm putting many more miles on the lease than originally anticipated (changed jobs, changed location0. So, i can either buy more miles (will cost me about $4500 to buy enough miles to cover me for the rest of the lease - up in 6 months), OR I can get into a new car sooner.
The cars that I'm considering:
- 08 550i -- seems a bit faster, and the ride is a bit smoother (getting rid of the runflats seems to have helped)
- 06 or 07 750i -- would get this w/ the sports pkg. Seems a bit nicer for the longer drive I'm doing now, and it handles nicely - but I'm concerned that, over time, I'll miss the handling and performance of the 550.
Can anyone who has gone from the 550 to the 750 (or the 750 to the 550) share their perceptions? Any regrets?
Thanks!
Ira

Just spent close to a week in a 7er, albeit the Hydrogen 7er. The 7er is a great car but it?s one of the oldest designs in the BMW line up.
It is slated for replacement shortly.
I would get the 5er, which is only in mid life and just got its LCI.

If you go with 750 look at the 750il which has longer wheel base and more rear seat room. I don't see any difference in interior space between e60 and standard 750i.

I went from an older 740i in superb condition into the 545i followed by the 550i and the change was an extremely pleasing one. Its great to be back in a sport machine again! The interior room and the trunk space is actually very close.

The 7 series is about to be relaunched after a dissapointing run with the current model, lots of technical problems etc. thus the body and all the major components will be new next year and the 06/07 models will look outdated. The 08 550s are "Fresh" and updated .They will look current for the next 3 years until the F10s come out. .... Go 550

I agree the 2002-2003 7series had a bunch of tech problems but as the 550 is fresh and new so is the 750. Id say its a solid car its whether you like the feeling of driving a heavy comfortable car vs a sporty midsize sedan.
New 7 comes out in 09 so you have plenty of time to trade off
But, why not just go for S550
