With all of this chatter regarding the upgrades to the shifter (paddles/knob), I've been searching around and found this: http://www.aw-industries.com/Shift-Knob/.
Apparently this company is doing the shift knob kit for E90s. They sell the kit only for $75 or you can get the shifter with the kit installed for $315. I've pinged them to see if they'd be willing to support the E63/E64, too.
