Bluetooth on '04s
#1
I always thought I could get the bluetooth in my car with just the software. However, my dealership told me that they couldn't get bluetooth on my car unless they did a complicated process they've never done before that would cost 5-6 grand. Obviously I wouldn't pay that much for it. They said that cars built before September of '04 need this, and mine was built in july.

Same situation here but................... dont let the steelership b.s. you! All you need is a new TCU which i was quoted at $400.00 and then a reporgraming which was quoted at $200.00, total $600.00 from Levin BMW in Indiana. Do a search in the search box and you can find all the info you need. I just think its too much money for just the luxuary of Bluetooth. By the way, if your car was built before March of 2004 then you will need the new TCU, i have a 2004 but built in 09/2003. Check your Vin# and that should tell you when it was built. Good luck!

My Ride: Stock for now
Some dealer should be called stealer's instead. I first called one dealer and was quoted over $600 for parts and over $600 to do the software update. I took in my 04 to a local dealer with a build date of 05/2004. The SR was not sure they could update the software to activate the bluetooth. He talked to the tech and the tech yes he could and they upgraded the software. They told me it would only work with BMW tested phones as listed in BMW.com/bluetooth........... After the software update the tech was able to pair his phone. The bluetooth paring function showed up on the IDrive. I tried the IPhone and it paird up easy and it brought over all my contacts. It takes a little while to sync up as most have reported here but it works great. The dealer charge was $260 to upgrade the software. If you need a new TCU get it and get the software update.

You could just go to best buy and buy a portable bluetooth mic and fit it over your sunvisor for 80.00
