2.) All I need now is the SMG steering column parts which shouldn't be much and i'll b set
Have you checked that the SMG wheel column collar will actually fit your non-SMG wheel first? Or were you planning on buying an SMG wheel too? The main part of this entire mod is getting the wires from the switches/paddles into the steering wheel colum and thats where you need the collar. But I'm sure you knew that.

Dear god is everyone blind... there is a topic like a couple down from this topic where it shows the steering wheel fitted and working and a picture right above your post in this topic showing my M6 wheel fitted....

god i can't believe i missed this the whole time!! i feel retarded. you don't need to do any mods to make pedals work except run 1 or 2 additional wire tapes inside the spring coil cartridge and you're set. i'll order the tape wires up over the WE and keep you guys posted when it's installed and working.

My dad had the idea when i first showed him but what does a 60+ year old graduate from dartmouth with an engineering degree know? apparently a lot lol. it was so simple that i had dismissed it from the very beginning..

So, 6er, the SMG 6 series' steering wheel fits/works with only minor mods?

Yeah, they are straight fit, as discussed the coil needs modded, I was wanting to have a spare standard one so thats why I got one pre done form my530i. Very simple, probably the easiest mod I have done to the car, could argue fitting the AiB's was harder.

But if you can get hold of an m5/6 wheel do it. An extremely nice wheel much chunkier and sporty and the paddles are illuminated and bigger compared to the SMG.

Schulrog this is the wheel I was referring to :

Cool! Just read through the threads. Might just have to do it... Now to find an appropriate steering wheel. There's a standard 6 series SMG steering wheel on eBay now but after looking at the shots, I agree, I want the M wheel.
