....went to the DE last week at the BMW Performance Center in South Carolina, it was an amazing time...BMW really does a great job of making this the most fun as possible...and not only do you get to drive the 6er all over the place, got to drive the M-roadster, M3 CSL, M5, M6, and 760Li around the track, then the 6er around the track and skidpad before heading on some great mountain road up to North Carolina to an amazing Spa in the mountains...i've written a full story on the whole experience here:

....any 6er owner who doesnt know about this program should call your dealer immediately to schedule....

Hi m630,

What car did they let you drive with during the 6er driving experience. Did you get to test the full performance of the M cars? Or you spend most of your time with the regular 6er? Could you share some insight from the driving experience? How does the 6er perform/handle during threshold driving?

The program is as much a Marketing tool as it is a fun time...After you sit thru a basic class on safety and driving, you head out to the track to start off in all the M cars...You will get about 5 or 6 laps in each- the M roadster, the M3 CSL, the M5, the M6, and the 760Li...it is a course with slaloms and hard corners and tight turns so you get alot of fun running around in them...i basically stayed in 2nd with kick blips to 3rd and then you have to come down to 2nd for a hard corner...you'll easily get to 70-80mph, but there isnt the room to get higher....this is only to get you wanting much more!!!!! but its enough time to really have a good time and drive the full M stable, they arent gonna let you rip at 150 though, but they do have more packages including a 2 day M school and advanced M schools where you have 2 full days on tracks and really drive to the limits....

So after the first hour or so running in the Ms, its next off to the 6ers..they are all 650s with SMG...the car handles amazingly and its weight is not an issue...when you are in the 6ers you go to another set of the track set up for timed runs...the course is set up with slaloms and hard corners and turns, and you have to finish off with an emergency brake move where you have to hit the brakes at about 70 or so and stop within a 'box' layed out, ...time is added to penalize you for not stopping completely in the box.....i'll telll ya, the 6er stops really quick as speeds.....then after a nice lunch its off to the skid pad with no DSC!!! they teach you how great it really works by wetting down the pad and turning off the traction controls...you have an instructor with you, and he will teach you how to steer out of an emergency situation...then after a bunch of skids without DSC, they throw it on and show you how much the car compensates and things to do to avoid accidents...it is amazing how well the traction works....

so that was the track time and then the road time was just as much fun, running thru lots of mountain roads and windy trails, the link posted earlier will take you to that full descript, but the 6er was of course a joy to drive in all ways
