Watch This E39 Go to the Crusher, If You Can Stomach It
It’s painful, yet fascinating to watch all at the same time. This 5 Series is getting crushed, and the machinery makes it look like it’s made out of aluminum foil. The Awesome Earthmovers video below shows how quickly a car can go from road-worthy to a pancake. That’s made even more surprising considering how well these cars do for passenger safety. For now, we have to deal with the fact that NHSTA doesn’t have a safety rating for earth moving machines and car crushers… yet.
There’s also another point to this video — leaking refrigerant. When the engine is being ripped out, you can see the refrigerant lines bursting, leaking it into the atmosphere. If that were done here in the States, there’d be some serious fines, and in some cases, probable jail time. Even the newer R134 type of refrigerant is still a big issue when it comes to ozone depletion, and it’s not something to be taken lightly. Wherever these guys might be located, they might regret having posted their car-crushing antics on Facebook.
