Track Battle: BMW M5 vs. BMW M4

By all accounts, the new BMW M4 is a phenomenal performance machine that builds on the legendary legacy of the M3 nameplate. It’s nimble, fast, and hellaciously fun to drive, but it’s not the mightiest car in the Bavarian stable. That distinction belongs to the new 30th-anniversary BMW M5. With almost 600 horsepower, the new M5 is the most powerful car that BMW has ever created. Of course, the M5’s overall larger size makes it quite a bit heftier than the svelte M4.

So which one would win in a race, and which one is actually better?

Evo tackled this question head on and took both machines to a local track for a day filled with smoky slides, timed laps, and general noise and mayhem. The clip at the bottom of this post is quite fun to watch and kicks off a new series of videos that Evo calls “Deadly Rivals.”

Not only do we get a ton of track time in both cars to learn about what makes each one unique and special, but the end of the video features a timed lap that displays the feeds from the in-car cameras running in time with the lap clock. Evo even stops the footage at certain points to explain why a particular car is leading.

As I said before, it’s a good watch – the final times are closer than you’d expect. However, you’ll need to hit play to find out which Bimmer wins because I’m not a fan of spoilers.
