As the old adage goes, you only get one first impression, and Hyde Designs out of Cape Town, South Africa just went from 0-100 real quick with the release of their first custom motorcycle, Octavia.

First, what’s Hyde Designs all about? In their words:

“There are many things that we do when we are alive. Most of them are s**t! But every now and then we hope to create something that makes ourselves proud. Things that don’t cry for approval from others, things that really matter. It’s these things that will keep us creating. So if you are creating for the sole purpose of approval. Stop.”

Aka, do you, boo boo?

Octavia is based on the G650 Xchallenge, a dual-sport version of the G650X that was produced during the back-end of the 2000s. According to Hyde, that bike was picked for “its reliable 650 Rotax engine, beautiful open swingarm and main structural frame.”

Octavia, which took six months to build, uses a bare design that sets the focus on the custom angular steel tank that slides into the triangular custom leather seat. The stubby fiberglass tail with a massive gap over the rear wheel gives it the look of a street fighter.

Specs and details-wise, the sub-frame is 2mm square steel, the Speedo comes from SpeedHunt USA, the rear monoshock is Showa, the front forks took the original and machined ’em with Yamaha R1s, the Suzuki wheels are 18 inches in the rear and 17 inches in the front, the exhaust is from Stealth Performance Pipes, and the radiator is from a BMW K1200.

Price is set at $13,200. Check out more photos of the build process here, then let us know what you think!
