Fabian Gatermann says that he works in the space “between art and design” and follows themes of “power, interaction and curiosity.” In his latest project, he teamed up with another artist, Matthias Edlinger, and worked with Philipp Wulk and Matthias Pittner from German-based builders Impuls to create a customized 1985 BMW K100 called the K101. The final product is gorgeous.

“With the concept I wanted to extend the motorcycle production process from sketching, 3D modeling, and manufacturing to remodeling in 3D and sketching back onto the bike by hand,” Gatermann said. “A hell of work that made me cry.”

The blue accents that match the logo, the single-sided rear mono-shock, the low profile, and the open frame all work together for a naked cafe racer-styled piece that you could stare at for hours. Gatermann scanned the bike, digitally designed the polygonal appearance on the tank and rear, then hand-drew the triangles on by hand.

Absolutely beautiful work. Wouldn’t you say?
