The BMW Vision Future Luxury will be the 9 Series
Would any of you like to see the new 9 Series BMW? You would? Awesome, because here it is. Dubbed the BMW Vision Future Luxury Concept, the car will most likely become the company’s next ultra luxury sedan using the 9 moniker.
The new car uses lightweight composites, and lightweight materials to save weight and add greater fuel economy. The company used some technologies it learned from the two i Series cars, plus it added loads of aluminum and carbon to the chassis to cut the total weight. The carbon/aluminum structure also allows the car to have those magnificent suicide doors.
That one detail alone should make BMW put this car into production. To get even better fuel economy, the car is unbelievably aerodynamically efficient and cuts through the air like a hot knife through butter.
What also is cool, and hopefully legal by the time BMW puts this into production, are BMW’s version of the laser headlamps. The new tech allows the car’s computer to detect oncoming vehicles and shift the intensity of the lights away from the other driver, but then automatically corrects once the vehicle has passed. Think about this as a twin-turbo design: the laser headlights allow the lamps to always stay in boost, or in this case, always stay bright no matter what situation you are in. It just shifts the brightness to the other lamp so as to avoid blinding the other drivers.
The BMW Vision Future Luxury, or 9 Series, will make its North American debut at Pebble Beach.
