Novice e60 owner...
Picked this baby up on Wednesday.
[Previous cars owned:
BMW F30
Mercedes W202 (1 sport, 1 '95 elegance), Mercedes W123 230e
Porsche 911 997
+ many many quite dull contraptions...
Currently restoring an '89 '944 2.7l n/a, It has MOT!]
I m totally smitten with the e60. It's a 2008 facelift M sport 330d, Carbon sapphire black... and there's a funny thing, as most of you know: it's a dark Navy blue, colour code 416. 94k good service history including auto transmission oil change @ 87k. I downloaded the rather large 1900 page workshop manual from bimmer fest. That's for the long winter evenings. It's the Teutonic version of War and Peace.
First up was de-drugdealerisating it. I got rid of smoke lens covers, the Clim air and i've ordered 2 clear side repeater lenses plus the door 'buffer latch' on the petrol flap which isn't doing what it's supposed to. 4 days in and I have removed the plastic panelling below the cabin filters to see if the 'pans' are draining properly. They were dirty but not clogged. Took the ERG intake pipe off to have a look and it's pristine in there. Will get a spare key from these guys (when the guy who does this area is back from holiday) https://www.cheapcarkeysscotland.co....t-to-do-next-2, as the key fob needs a battery and some soldering ?! Saw a how to video.
...and I only got it last Wednesday! It has a cream leather interior. Former owner was a mechanic apparently. You could tell as I had to scrub the beige drivers side seat belt and use copious quantities of Autglym leather cleaner and leather care balm on the drivers seat but it came up very good for a 16 year old car. Also filled and painted innumerable stone chips on the bonnet. Next up: Clay bar (Bilt Hamber) and a polish, replacing all the under panel screws and spire nuts. They are past their best and I had fun removing the under the engine one when I dropped a spanner.
Now to see if I have a red or a black dipstick. This will be one helluva learning curve... I'm Rob BTW.
Love it so far. Wish her and I luck and she* doesn't chuck expensive stuff at me.
*Petra.

(Cheers guys)
Oh no. The W124 was a bit of a brick styling wise but still, one of the best autobahn cruisers made. Mercs from that era were so solid. It all went mammaries up for 15 years when they merged with Chrysler in '98. The year AMG were no longer handmade. I recall going in to a Mercedes dealer in 2002 when I first purchased the W123. I went in for a full service pack. Oil filter was £4.00 odd, all items on my list really well priced. The dealer himself loved the w123 and printed up 6 sheets of paper full of data: from plug gaps to fluid levels to camber and toa angles as I had just bought it and explained it was running like a bag of nails. He got one of his mechanics (called Floyd) to give me some advice. (I looked an idiot later when I could not get the instrument cluster lights to work - he just pointed to the odometer button and said 'rheostat' Ding! Light bulb)..
Returned after a long drive around Europe spring 2003 and thought I would give it an oil change. All change: turned into a franchise. Didn't recognise a single person . After asking for Floyd, was told 'he doesn't work here anymore'. Oil filter was now £18.50 plus VAT. (It's only paper).
Bumped into Floyd coming out of a scrap yard. He was setting up on his own. They let all the time served mechanics go and replaced them with fitters.
Anyway, i've waffled enough so in compensation for that - enjoy this video:

Can someone point me in the direction of a PDC sensor thread please? Seems to be intermittent and if I spray electrical contact cleaner on them, they work for a short time. They go tick tick tick tick when working, that's about as far as I got.

With the sublime N52 engine? I would have loved one but finding a clean one with relatively low mileage I failed to do.

PDC get wore out over time, my car had a tick and it turns out it was the DISA valve. It sounded like lifter tick and low oil when idling or driving around. Your cheapest bet is the junk yard, if not eBay.
