Draped in carbon fiber, the 2020 M2 CS lives up to its high-performance roots as a 444 hp track-ready car.

5 Series was at the L.A. Auto Show for the debut of the BMW 2020 M2 CS. We were very impressed. BMW delivered on an M2 Competition-worthy in the CS. With more oomph under the hood, this is a race-inspired aggressive coupe created to deliver incredible performance.

Looking at the M2 CS, it is clear that the team spent a lot of time on increasing refinement, power, and precision. Truly, the devil is in the details. The carbon fiber components really add to its racy style. And we love that BMW added a manual transmission option!

Now, the car comes with a 6-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. A detail that is sure to appeal to many drivers who prefer the immediacy of driving stick.

One of the biggest improvements to the 2020 M2 CS is the S55 3.0L  inline 6-cylinder engine, amped up with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. That makes 444 horsepower and 406 lb.-ft of torque, an increase of 39 hp over the M2 Competition.

It can go 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds with the 7-speed dual clutch (DCT), and 4.0 seconds with the 6-speed manual. Top speed is 174.

Carbon fiber looks very slick, and is on the roof, hood, rear spoiler, front splitter, rear diffuser, rearview mirrors, and inside. And the Blue Metallic Metallic paint is vivid and eye-catching.

Inside, BMW has given the same attention to detail. It feels very track day. Well, track day elevated with some luxury.

The //M badging is a sharp touch. The M2 emblem appears on the door sill, instrument cluster, and seating.

Alcantara is featured throughout the cabin; on material covers, dash trim, and the standard M Sport Steering wheel–which features red contrast stitching.

It looks and feels luxurious as well as sporty. This car just feels fast.

Fully loaded, the M2 CS has a Harman/Kardon sound system, Apple CarPlay, useful on-board tech, plus a host of cool extras.

However, it is clear that BMW was focused on the experience behind the wheel, the performance. Clearly, the M2 CS was built to curl toes. The M-Tuned exhaust with quad tailpipes, Adaptive M Suspension, chassis and steering, and active M differential promise a responsive and dynamic ride.

Oh yeah, this baby is going to roar.

Lighter, more powerful, and aesthetically refreshed, we were excited by the new and improved M2. This is a tasty car can can’t wait to take for a spin.
