BMW M8 Gran Coupe First Edition is an absolute showstopper.

BMW brought an impressive line up to this year’s L.A. Auto Show. One of the most anticipated being the 2020 BMW M8 Gran Coupe. It not only lived up to our expectations, but surpassed them. Simply put, the now four-door M8 is a gorgeous car, the perfect balance the 8-series Gran Coupe and the M8.

Strong design combined with muscular power, the 2020 M8 Gran Coupe is also available in Competition trim. In addition to this, BMW has also debuted the special edition 2020 M8 Gran Coupe First Edition. This exclusive ride is a rare beauty, but sadly only 400 will be produced.

BMW M8 Gran Coupe

As with other M8 models, the sleek Gran Coupe runs on a 4.4L twin-turbo V8, sending 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Competition models are amped up, making 617 hp.

One of the first things you notice is that the M8 Gran Coupe has beefed up. It is longer, wider, and taller than the 8-series Gran Coupe; and it is striking. Carbon fiber details make it feel sportier, and the four-door is a perfect touch.

Clearly, every detail was considered, and is an elevated addition to the 8 Series fleet, and certainly has earned its place in the M Performance family.

We loved the four-door body, boasting wide flanks and sleek modern lines. And the Ametrin Metallic color is a stunning shade of –yes–purple. The wider platform certainly makes the M8 look sportier. And yes, it is a powerhouse, going 0-62 mph in 3.1 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph. That number is boosted up to 190 mph with the optional M Driver’s Package.

Sporting //M badging, the interior is bigger and oh so luxurious.

Inside, it has Nappa leather on the dash and door panels, a very cool electroplated air vent and a quilted design adds a great design to the door trim and seating. The center console extends into the rear space, a great design for every passengers’ convenience.

We loved the lightweight carbon fiber roof which not only looks great, it is a smart and stylish way to lower weight and the center of gravity on the Gran Coupe. Designers were clearly aiming for improved handling and performance–thus, the adaptive suspension–but it also looks awesome. Carbon fiber is also on the spoiler, mirrors, and other exterior elements.

It’s everything we love about BMW: it is elegant, aggressive, and drives like a dream.

We didn’t expect to see the special First Edition, but is was a show-stopper. In a lust Aurora Diamant Green, it boasted bronze details and special badging befitting such a rare ride.

As only 400 will be made, 50 in the U.S., they pulled out all the stops. It has everything extra and special for a limited run: 20-inch wheels, leather interior, and stellar performance specs. Powered by the same 4.4-L V8 as the M8 Gran Coupe Competition, it is an agile, strapping machine with high-caliber BMW style.

Overall, BMW clearly came to dominate the L.A. Auto Show. Job well done. Check out more First Edition pictures below.
