Exhaust Showdown: BMW E39 M5 vs E46 M3
Throughout the history of the internet, BMW lovers have debated which is best, the E46 M3 or the E39 M5. The E39 M5 saw the removal of the inline 6-cylinder in favor of a heavier, yet more powerful and more torque-filled V8. The E39 has a huge cult following, unlike the E60 M5, which many BMW M purists believe is an abomination, leaving behind both the aesthetics and heritage the M5 began with, all those years ago.
I personally am a fan of the E39. It has poise, power, and an unruly noise that can wake the dead if so needed. However, there will be those that disagree with me. Why? Because this is the internet, and that’s what the internet does best. However, to settle this fight once and for all (or possibly begin a new fight), a BMW fan decided to bring the E39 and the E46 M3 together for a showdown. Rather than just doing straight line speed or other comparative tests, the reviewer just decided to see which one sounds best. So, have at it in the comments below.
