2002 M5 for Sale, the Perfect Fair-Weather Daily Driver
Well cared for by its original owner, this near-perfect M5 could be yours for a reasonable price.
For many BMW fans, 5-Series enthusiasts especially, the E39 M5 is the ultimate Ultimate Driving Machine. Now that the cars are a decade-and-a-half old, or more, it’s getting harder and harder to find nice examples. Most are either thrashed, relegated to bad-decision-buy-here-pay-here lots, or are super low-mileage cars with stratospheric price tags.
This 2002 BMW M5 on BringATrailer looks to be the perfect compromise for the BMW enthusiast that wants a car they can drive and enjoy, which also has a solid service history. With just 92k miles and all the right options — more or less by default since M5s were pretty much loaded by this point — this car looks to be what we’d call “just right.”
This particular M5 is resplendent in Le Mans Blue over Caramel leather. It’s a dynamic color combo that’s eye-catching without being ostentatious. The wheels, recently refinished in a metallic charcoal grey, add to this M5’s subdued high-performance look.
On the inside, there’s wiring present for an integrated radar detector, and the car is also wired for an auxiliary output. But there’s apparently a few dead pixels on the information display, which shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Furthermore, the car presents very well, and is remarkably clean looking, inside and out. The driver-side seat leather shows a bare minimum of bunching. And while we’re sure the front bumper and hood have their share of minor rock chips, it’s entirely forgivable in this case.
This is a one-owner car that was purchased off-lease by its original corporate lessee. Anyone familiar with BMWs of this era will be happy to know that over $2,000 was recently spent on service. And that included a refresh of the notoriously fragile cooling system and a new battery.
It’s great to see so much care lavished upon this car at the culmination of the current owner’s 15-year love affair with it. And now it’s ready for a careful second owner. Could it be you? Check out the listing on BringATrailer and get your bid in.
