‘Rusty Slammington’ BMW 5 Series Can Never Die
‘What is dead may never die, but rises again harder and stronger.’
If you’re a fan of Game of Thrones, you’ll recognize those words as the commonly exchanged prayer among the “Drowned Men.” As everything in GoT has an opposite — a foil, if you will, Rusty Slammington is perhaps the opposite of “drowned.” Not long ago, it died in a fire.
The car, which was once a BMW 5 Series, has also been crushed by a tree. And chopped, slammed, oiled, blown up, hacked apart, and cobbled together again. A couple of years ago, it was revived from a long period of dormancy and presented at SEMA mostly as you see it today in this video from StanceWorks.
As it is now, the car is inspired by BMW’s Group 5 racers of the 1970s and ’80s, with huge flares, wide center-locking wheels, sticky tires, and a deep air dam. It’s been equipped with a racing-inspired interior. This includes all of the safety items you’d need for on-track action, including a roll cage, fuel cell, and pneumatic jacks. If you ask us, it’s one cool revival of a twice- or thrice-wrecked BMW. It even sounds like a proper racing car.

The video is really fun to watch, even if it doesn’t provide much new information about Rusty. But if you don’t learn anything, it’s a short, well-shot video with stellar editing. Really, there’s no excuse not to watch. It’s like a movie trailer leading up to something really exciting. What’s in store for Rusty’s next life? We’ll just have to wait and see.
