This is testament to the fact that BMW refuses to produce a supercar. The LFA, largely made from carbon fiber, is a bona fide supercar. You could buy a number of M5s for the price of one LFA. It does not seem like BMW wants to put its toe in the supercar waters.

I test drove an '07 GS350 before settling on the 550i. There were some things I liked about it, good power, awesome sound system. The road feel was not there, nor was the "Lexus quality" that everyone talks about. I reviewed all the records and it already had warranty work done on the cams and lots of dash noise. Also, I didn't feel I was getting a good deal. The dealer was asking $31,500 for a car that was $50k new with 47k miles on it. I know I could have bargined, but still, I doubt they would have come down more than a couple thousand. Compare that to my 2006 550i that was $69,000 new with 52k miles that I picked up for under $20k. Now that's what I call value, and a much better car to boot!

The GS is the competitor for the 5 series. ES really has no counterpart with BMW as the IS is the competitor for the 3 series. The ES is a bit boring, and we all know that Lexus isn't a sporty handling car. Personally though, we own more Lexus vehicles than BMWs. The 5 series is fun to drive no doubt, but it's all about preference. We prefer a more subtle and comfy daily driver while we use the 5 series as our weekend car or a car that we wanna go out and have fun with if we're feelin the need for something sporty. Then again the LS460 isn't really "soft" as the ES. Totally different animal! It can't handle as well as a BMW on corners but the power sure wasn't overlooked in this beast

Maybe next time I should add a Benz to the stable to even it out lol.

My father has owned two Lexus ES. His current car is a 2010. The navigation system is the WORST I have ever seen. I have a 2010 Acura MDX and just purchased a 2012 535i. Both navigation systems are very easy to figure out. I am a certified computer instructor and I had to play for a bit to figure out the Lexus Navi. My 78 year-old father never uses it because it is just too complicated! Having driven both of his Lexus ES autos, they cannot compare to the 535 in handling, features, suspension, radio, etc..

To each it's own opinion but I personally think the Lexus Navi system is a lot easier and user friendly to use than BMW's Navi. I finally got around to use my Navi in my 535i last weekend and I had trouble finding some POIs. The steps seemed a little complicated for me, while in my LS460 I can easily find what I need. Also the touch screen capability is one thing I PREFER when having a NAVI in my car. The only GOOD thing I like with the BMW Navi over the Lexus NAVI is the ability to input addresses while driving (passenger is inputting addresses of course, not the driver!). Lexus disables the ability to input once the car starts rolling (unless you install the bypass module). Even trying to connect a bluetooth phone requires you to be fully STOPPED before the system will connect to your phone.

I like being able to use my voice to fully enter in an address while driving. That is pretty sweet.. it's pretty good at getting it right too.
