I'm thinking of installing an iPhone dock and was curious to find out how to do it.
Besides, need to find out why that damn 12VDC ash tray outlet isn't staying up.
Lift the iDrive control knob up.
Press on the ash tray insert to remove.
Remove 2 torx screws.
Lift the wood trim carefully near the menu button.

I'm thinking of getting one spec.dock as well. I could not fine a DIY for that.
It would be great if you could take alot of pictues and create one diy for spec.dock install.
Do you already have Dension-500 installed?
thanks

Just used this guide to fix my 'Floppy' Cigarette lighter!
Excellent stuff. Guides like this make it a DIY choice rather than an expensive trip to a Dealer or even specialist.

That was great. I cut my fingers up trying to get to the two back screws and wire harness. I broke a clip for the left seat heater but still works. I hope it never comes undone again.

Awesome write up!
I was able to get wedge pop off the trim around the shift knob with a plastic butter knife, but how did you pop off the wood trim by the menu button?
It's on there pretty tight, I'm just afraid of breaking or cracking the trim. Any tips?

Can you please explain the step 2 (2nd photo): Press on the ash tray insert to remove a bit more detail?
Thanks,
