how many miles did you have?
and how did the old oil look?
was there a magnet on the drain plug?

I don't buy their "Lifetime Oil" mantra. It's so easy a caveman can do it .

Got it. So you probably dislike BMW's ultra-long intervals for oil changes under the included maintenance program, right?

Yes Sir. I do it at 5-7.5 K intervals.

I figured as much. I lease my 550 so I don't do that. But if I owned and wanted to keep my ride until a ripe old age, I'd change the oil every 5K-7.5K miles.

I recall BMW remove drain plug in some cars to make our life not easy to change the fluid. In this case, we will need to suck diff. oil out .... ( I don't think it will complete go out ), or open the case to let it drip. I have 2009 535xi, needs to do transfer case too. There is a big plastic cover under the case, once I hit 30K miles, I am going to do it. ( for both transfer case and diff)

Yes, I did change my oil every 5K to 7.5K depends on my schedule. Rotate tires in every oil change... I am 18K miles now, all four original tires wear even, it has been rotate three times, no ill effect happens.
