I'm At 68.8K miles.
Oil is dark.
No magnet.
I am going to do the change too when the mileage hits 60k miles. I am also thinking to put the rear on ramp and then jack up the front. Now, you have done it, I would do the same too. Many thanks !!!

Where did you get that pump from? Looks almost like a soap dispenser pump. Thats a good idea. I am planning to change my diff oil and atf here soon

You can get it from any Auto Part store. I got mine from Advanced Auto Parts for $8. We use this kind of pump for differential gear oil and transmission fluid changes.

Yap! Same one. I used an empty 1 qt oil bottle since the Redline bottle has a narrow cap.
Also make sure to apply the parking brake when rear wheels are on ramp before raising the front axle.

Hey Riz, excellent write up and now I have more courage to do it, thanks!! Just to clarify, did you take the bolt off on the side first then the one in the back on top?? Are my steps correct below in order? If not, pls clarify for me/us. Thanks.

1. take bolt off side ?? (seems like I have 1 & 2 backwards)
2. take bolt off on back towards the top??
3. Pump fluid out from the back
4. plug all holes back with new ones.
5. pump oil back in / 2 qt.

Are there any trick on putting fluid back like the Tranny? thanks.

1. take bolt off side ?? (seems like I have 1 & 2 backwards) The lower one is the drain
2. take bolt off on back towards the top?? Thats the fill plug.
3. Pump fluid out from the back No, fluid will come out of drain hole, gravity helps. Put new drain plug after draining oil. Pump new fluid into fill hole.
4. plug all holes back with new ones.
5. pump oil back in / 2 qt. Actually less than 2 qts.

Are there any trick on putting fluid back like the Tranny? thanks.
I heard of horror stories like "open the fill plug before the drain plug, just in case you have a problem with the fill... you're stocked with..."
Actually the drain/fill plugs were not too tight. I followed TIS by getting two brand new bolts with Orings.
It's not as tricky as the ATF change. Just drive the car to get oil warmed up before draining. You'll only use 1.4 L, or as soon as oil starts
coming out of fill plug, stop and put new plug in to 60NM (44 ft-lbs).

I have done this on previous cars and can add one other tip. Before refitting the drain plug, I add a small amount of new axle oil and let that drain just to get the last bit of old oil and debris out of the differential.

Rizbel,

Very nice DIY! Thanks for the detail and pics.

What made you choose Redline? Were there any other "Brand" that you considered?
Maybe Lubro Moly, Pentosin, or Swepco. Looks like BMPdesign, Pelicanparts or BavAuto have these for sale as well.
I'm just wondering whether these oils are worth the extra $$ compared Redline. Of course I prefer Redline because I can get it from local retailer.

Do you happen to have 6MT? If you do, any chance of you writing up a DIY to change the transmission oil on 6MT

18K miles to go before I perform this maintenance

I had my diff oil changed at 90k km and it smelled and looked bad already. When i installed quaife i changed the oil obviously, and after 5k km again, to ensure that the oil is clean etc. Now i plan to change the oil every 60k km. It is a really easy job, the bottom drain plug IMO needs changing after each oil change, to ensure that there are no leaks, the upper one i change every second change.
