Hi Guys,

had to do this for the group buy guys, so i thought I might aswell add this to the DIY section.

As to the mod itself - would i do it? Yes I would. It looks great. Obviously a plug/play would be to take LCI mirrors but considering the amount i save if I had bought it from the dealer (1200 EUR MORE than what we paid for this group buy), I am happy with the extra bit of work (of fitting a non-lci mirror on a lci car)...

One more thing: guys - you are old enough to be held responsible for what you do, so don't hold anything against me. This dyi is just a fyi.

thanks

Rumman

I'm guessing on the original functions of the mirror works on the new mirror and not the additional features.

Exactly - the original ones will work, since the cables are available on the original ECU to connect to the cables on the m5 mirror itself..

Your original mirror has 3 wires (green+brown+red) and so does the mirror can you just plug them? Or their plug are different? If different could you just work on the plug as oppose to cutting?

hmm - i thought of it but the connectors were different. Obviously I could just replace the connectors but I am sure the m5 non-lci ecu would not be able to communicate with my car who expects a lci ecu.

I popped open mine when 530dA asked me to double check and your original mirror ECU look exactly the same as mine (my mirrors have the same feature w/ your original mirror) = 5 wire.

Do you have a pic of it? Can you post it?

Well in your case - I would buy the post 09/05 mirrors and migrate your ecu into the m5 mirror and connect the cables of your ecu to the respective cables of the m5 mirrors, in this case only 5 (3 for the connecter and 2 for the heated mirrors)...

Ahhh sorry I didn't take any picture, 530dA was asking about how many wires from the mirror, but I'll take some for you when I do my conversion (it'll be few weeks as the mirror won't be here probably 'till this weekend and will be going to paint shop early next week), and my plan is just to use the mirror ECU that come in the M5 mirror directly as is... who knows maybe the puddle light and the EC will just work for sure not the folding.

I'll try to get the closeup pics. of that white sticker on my original ECU for you maybe the numbers will match.
