Does anyone have a step by step instruction for removing the center console (entire arm rest, shift panel)? I need to replace my airbag control unit which is located under same. Any help guys would be very much appreciated.

Airbag control unit is not there. If your car is pre-09/05 built, it's inside the steering wheel. For post-09/05, I "believe" it's built inside steering control unit (behind the steering wheel).

JeffJam,

Have a look at these:

BTW, the trim removal "special tool" can be substituted by a wide bladed screwdriver

Does anyone have the instructions on how to actually remove the wood trim piece from the center console, the big piece that runs underneath the idrive knob all the way to the ash tray? This seems to be the only instruction that is missing from the ones above.

Or maybe the rest is just self-explanatory after you remove the selector knob trim plate? I just am not sure - the wood ashtray mechanism looks like it is tricky, but maybe it is just all connected to the whole wood trim piece on the center console?

Thanks for any direction you can offer.......

That will do it! The PDFs on this thread are much more complete. Thanks (again...) Rudy.
