Yup, I bought from this guy.
About 8 months ago I purchased a replacement navigation computer for my 740i (MK4 to upgrade from MK3) on eBay. There were a bunch of E38 owners doing this modification and there were many units for sale on eBay from several sellers. The going rate was about $750.
The MK4 works great and is very fast (faster than our E60 computers :thumbsdown. It turns out that there were a lot of us buying from this one guy. He was helpful and nobody had any trouble with him.
Then, last month I got a call from the Spartanburg SC Sheriff. They were very good about it and said all they wanted from us were copies of any emails we had from the guy and a photo of the serial number on the Nav unit. "Yes, sir." The Sheriff said that no way was BMW going to go after so many BMW owners, so we were free to keep the unit.
Lesson learned ... do your homework when buying on eBay.
Do all criminals have beady eyes like this?
