Hi everyone. I am having the whole overheating problem with my wife's 525xi n52 6cyl. I think it is primarily a thermostat issue but I want to see if there is anything I can do to bench test the water pump while it is out. I would like to avoid the $575.00 price tag of the pump if possible.

The Idrive is telling me that the engine needs to be turned off, the temp gauge is reading normal (4 bars), and there is no hot air coming out the heater vents. The coolant reservoir is also pushing coolant out.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

I had the problems with the engine overheating on my 530i N52. This problem occurred on previous winter,
I was driving to the next city, it's 300 km, the outside temperature was -25 to -30 C at night and everything was ok,
but on next day the temperature was -5 degree or close to 0 C and was sunny (my car was staying under the
sun) I start the engine and after driving a few kilometers engine started overheating. I turn the engine off,
then started it again, the symptom was the same. Then the car was delivered to nearest official bmw center.
The guys were looking the problem approximately for 3 hours and found it - they told me that it was water pump malfunction
and after restarting it, the engine was running as must, and no more malfunction appeared again.
Also service adviser told me that early my visiting was the same problem with the same car and engine N52,
they also restarted water pump and result was ok.
Interesting why they looking for problem in my car for 3 hours, if they knew where is the problem from previous car,
but this is the another story...
