Hi everyone - I have a 2008 LCI 535xi; no sport package - I'm sticking to the standard 18" wheels for now.

I am looking to change my tires (still have the run-flats on, ugh...) and have been doing a lot of reading here and other forums. I went to a couple of tire shops and have basically narrowed it down to the following three tires:

1. Continental ExtremeContact DWS (Ultra High Performance All-Season) - 245/40ZR18 in the front and 275/35ZR18 in the rear. ($846 not including installation) <-- I can get a further 10% discount on these through my friend who works in Continental

2. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus (Ultra High Performance All-Season) - 245/40ZR18 in the front and 275/35ZR18 in the rear. ($1,014 not including installation).

3. Michelin Primacy MXM4 (Grand Touring All-Season) - 225/50R17 both front and rear. ($820 not including installation)

**Would those of you who've used any of these tires please tell me about your experience with them?

**Also, what would be the advantage (or disadvantage) going with the Primacy's (4 matching tires) vs one of the other two (different sized front and rear tires)?

Thanks in advance for your insight and advice!

Cheers.

I went from the OEM Dunlop runflats to the Conti DWS. No issues with the Conti's whatsoever but I'm looking to replace them now and considering moving to grand touring type shoes as well. Doing this primarily for ride comfort, as my car is a daily commuter - 80 miles round trip. Anyone familiar with 76 through Philly - this is my daily drive from Jersey. SO what are everyone's thoughts - would a grand touring type tire have more ride confirm that an ultra high performance all season? If I don't go with another set of DWS it will probably be Contisport or Bridgestone Serenity. Thoughts or experiences?

The Pirelli P-Zeros have gotten good reviews. And they seem to have good wear #'s too. I had a set on my last 740 sport and they were very quiet too.
I'm very familiar with your commute - did the Rt 42/76/ Blue Route / "Surekill DIstresssway" etc etc for several years!!

If you shop/buy @ Tirerack use the link in my signature for additional rebates.

MXM4 rider here - not bad for the price (I picked them up off CL just randomly browsing, with almost new thread, for 450ish). A little rough for the first week or so, but have settled in nicely.

1) and 2) on your list are 18" and won't fit 17" rims, and 3) is a 17" tire and won't fit 18" rims .. you know that, right?

Hmm. Maybe I knew that...

I thought the OEM wheels that come with the 535xi (non-sport) was 18"... Why would TireRack recommend 17"? Thoughts?

Tire rack shows 3 different variations when entering the 535 xi - 1-standard, 2-sport package, 3-sport package w/18" wheels.

Some info on the sport packages available on the 535xi:

Sport package
  • comes with 17" wheels standard
  • 18" light alloy wheel package upgrade available - style 124 staggered - these are not part of the package but were available as an upgrade for either sport package or non-sport
M-Sport package
  • comes with 18" style 135m wheels square standard
