so this is an opinion post, i have been noticing that concave rims are starting to make an appearance more and more. i was at my local wheels shop and noticed even them huge... huge wheels almost no lip. so whats the deal, even though i personally love the huge offset rear wheel, is it soon a thing of the past? lets here what you have to say, post some pics too guys/girls !!! lets see where this goes!

 

Concave wheels are in these days. I still prefer wheels with a big lip. If I were to get some wheels, it would probably be step lip.

i've always preferred one piece/concave wheels over anything with a lip. nowadays, though, the whole concave thing kinda gets on my nerves, since "max concavity" is the new "deepest lips" trend. in the end, buy what you like. timeless style doesn't require one type of wheel over the other.

 

Concavity is a phase. The deep lip will always be in style.

the step lip definitely has an aggressive appeal, the concave has a clean look, phase or fad, it seems like the old corps is sticking with the step lip and the new corps are going concave. i personally like the look of both in the right application, Michael i think your funny bro. i appreciate all the feed back so far! keep it goin!

 

Deep lips look better on older cars imo.

 

Agree...I've always liked the deep lip wheels on the previous generation 5'ers but on the E60/61 and the new F11, the concave seem to look better.

 

I agree. I think the last BMW that looked best with deep dish was the e46 m3. Conversely (pun intended) the non-m e46 did not look as good with fat lips, but was smoother with something akin to the CSL wheel.


There are still some newer cars that look better with a deep dish, but as modern auto design has evolved, 2 and 3 piece wheels seem like a relic. The design lines are too soft for the sharp angles of deep dish wheels.

 

True 3 piece deep dish is timeless and concavity is the current trend. While Form is in the eye of the beholder, Function is in the weight of the wheel and 1 piece design, IMHO will have the advantage all day long.

Many focus on engine mods for better performance. A critical component of that lies in unsprung weght. Try putting on a set of lightweight wheels and see how your car runs.
