Hey guys! Long time lurker here, finally created an account.
I bought a used 2008 550i, not sure on much of the history on it, but it has the M-sport grill, and M-sport 19" wheels on it - however, I'm looking to replace the rims on it as the front 2 are having balancing issues and one actually has a refurbed crack on it.
Looking at the door, it originally had 17" 225/50/R17 all the way around - so I'm actually looking to take it back to stock. However...I'm not sure what I need to do for that. I bought some 17" rims, but they rubbed on the calipers - then I found out they came from a 345i, so - not enough clearance on the rim. Now I'm back at it, and looking at a local junkyard here who has a nice set of 05' 545i rims - can you tell me if those would fit the 08' 550i?
Here's a pic of my 550i - I have no idea if it has anything special that could keep the rims from fitting - I will say the 17" ones did fit ok (besides not having enough clearance for calipers). When I originally got the car, it had the same size tires all the way around (3 brands between the 4 tires) on the staggered rims.
I put a brand new set of: (FRONT)ContiExtremeContact DWS06 (Dry Wet Snow), size 245/35ZR19 XL and (REAR) ContiExtremeContact DWS06 (Dry Wet Snow), size 275/30ZR19 XL, that I'm going to have to try and get rid of as well.
to the forum! RWD E60's have lower wheel offsets than the AWD xi versions. You likely were trying to fit an xi wheel onto your RWD car.
Do a forum search in this section for "offset explained". Most try for 19" rims, which offer a good balance of style and comfort. Not all BMW rims are cross-compatible. This site might help you deciding which OEM rims might fit your 550i. All BMW wheel styles 5 E60+ | BmwStyleWheels.com
