Question E61 2005 tyre size

Sorry to be a pain but I have recently acquired my E61 530D and it has a mix of tyres on it mostly 17 inch I was wondering what is the standard tyre that came with the car when new and what size can I fit without having to do any extra work on the car?
If it's already been covered I do apologise but I did a search and couldn't find the answer that I wanted.

That information should be listed on the driver's side door jam. This is the one from my 2007 E60.

Thankyou for that I'll have a look, I could not find the info in the vehicle handbook?

Ok so I just checked my drivers pillar and it says that I should have 245 40 R18! All of my tyres are on 17 inch rims I think they are type 138 or X108, my question is will 18 inch tyres fit onto these rims that have the 17 inch tyres now? What difference in road noise would I get from the larger tyres?

You can't mix and match rim and tire sizes. If you want 18" tire then you have to get 18" wheels. For the road noise that depends on the tire size and type you get. I would say the factory size would not create a lot of noise but the type of tire you put on it will. These cars are quiet from factory. It's the owners that create the problems by putting non factory parts on the cars and also worn out door seals

Are these the rims you have? BMW wheel style 138 | BmwStyleWheels.com They are the same rims that came stock on my car. If you just want to stick with these rims, go with the tyre size that I posted in the pic above. Change all the tyres to have the same tread pattern. AWD bimmers are fussy about all the tyres being the same. Otherwise, you start having transfer case problems.

Yes my wheels are the 138 style so you recommend 225 50 R17 for best all round performance then, and thankyou for your time. Just a quick add do I need 94 rated or above?

There's not much difference between the two. Load Index (lbs.) 94 = 1,477, 98 = 1,653.
