Cracked Rims
I have an 04 530i with the sports package. The car came with 18in rims and run flat tires and i drive in the city. I'm on my second set of rims in 3 yrs. Has anyone else experieced a similar problem?

on that note there was definitly a problem with a certain style of stock wheel your speaking of. I on the other hand dont know the style number and size, but what your telling me sounds awefully familiar.. Try searching more using the advanced search and using different words. I've not had this problem but after reading many threads and articles on this subject, it would seem that the problem lies in the extra rigid side wall of the run-flat. The force of the impact is transfered to wheel rather than being absorbed by the tyre and the pressurized air. Alloy wheels are softer than steel wheels and are more prone to cracks and fatigue.

I guess some BMW wheels are more suseptible than others. From personal experience, my 124's have had this issue. I had to get three repaired. I'm pretty sure others with 124's could agree. I'm sure these run flats don't help.
Read many threads about the 124's and their cracking issues. Very interesting that we may look at run-flats as the culprit...sounds like a plausible theory but i've never read this as of yet.

I have 124's w/run flats and no issues yet... may have to watch this closely.

Alloys are more prone to cracking than steels even with standard tyres.A few pot holes and harsh bumps with low profile tyres, is all it takes to damage them. Makes sense to me that the run-flat could only speed up the process.
