22" rims on a 545i 2004? can it work without issues?? if so what would one need???

22s will fit with the proper tires and proper offsets. you may have to roll your fenders if needed. check out member wheelzplus. he has 22s on his e60, and a new member is planning to put 22s on his in the near future as well.

Why would anyone want to do such a thing?

OK let's take a nice car with great suspention (read handling) and totally F it up by adding an out of spec and overweight wheel/tire combo that will through of the suspention geometry out of whack. At the same time let's destroy the ride quality. The car and it's components was not designed for a 22" wheel. It is too large and too heavy. Basically doing so is like throwing away all the million dollars in engineering cost BMW put into the car.

I saw an E36 the other day with 22" rims. It looked HORRIBLE.

u could fit 22s, need to roll fenders and if you take hard turns they will rub a little

The smallest 22" tire that I found is a 245/30R22. This tire is 2" taller the the stock (225/50R17). Rolling fenders will not help. You will need to raise the car (use thinker spring perches) so the wheels do hit the wheel wells.

You could fit anything including 24's if you really wanted, but again WHY?
