Hey guys,

I was trying to order some 285/25r20 for my 20x11's at my local tire shop but they refuse to order the tire for me saying the load index is to low. Tires I want are the Michelin super sports, the load index on them is 93 and the shop said it needs to be 96 or higher? This must be some new insurance policy or something?

I thought guys have been running this setup for years with no problems, whats the big deal now?

Actually, most members here that are running on 20s (including myself) run 35 front 30 rear. 25 on the rear is just way too harsh and seems too thin for the rims.

I have on order a set of 285/30r20's since they refused to do the 25s. Did you have to roll your fenders for rear fitment?

245/35/20F and 275/30/20R is the common 20" setup for an E60. No fender roll required. I have 10" wide rears.

I've run 285/30/20 in the rear since I have 10.5". No rubbing whatsoever unless your rear wheel offset is less than 18.

30/25 profile is the right profile for E60s (check tyre calculators). I drive with 255/30-20 and 305/25-20 at my E60. I have also drives with 245/30-20 and 285/25-20 and 295/25-20. All tyres with high enough LI.

I wouldnt go 285/25 rear on a 20x11. Either do 305/25/20 or the ideal 295/30/20 for a 20x11 and your set. 285 will give a stretch and with a 25 series your gonna risk wheel damage sooner or later. I ran 305/25 on a 11" wheel and was fine but it will also depend on the quality of wheel.

Try to match the rolling diameter of your stock setup. Stretching tires on rims lowers the rolling diameter so keep that in mind. Ideal side for a 285 tire is a 10" wheel so most of the calculations you will see online are based on this so if you stretch or square off more than whats been listed you will encounter different rolling diameters. I did fit Michelin Pilot Super Sport 295/30r20s on the 20x11(et25) but ran into a slight problem. Since the Michelin's run a bit larger/wider, the tire rubbed like crazy and the fender under compression sat on top of the tread.

I had this setup on my M5 and it fit fine but the M5 fenders are a bit different from the 550i. I did have the fenders rolled yesterday so the stretched 285 "should" fit with little to no rubbing on my 550i.

What have you guys been running in the front? 255/35r20 or 245/35r20? The 255's fit but they have a slight rub on the plastic liners when turning or under compression. I'm tempted to jump down to the 245 to minimize the rubbing. The front wheels are 20x9 et20.

My biggest crutch in this whole wheel situation is I have this stupid rolled curb I have to traverse to get my ride into the garage. With the 295s I almost got stuck lol!

If you are going with a 255 upfront go with a 255/30r20. That's is what I am running and I will have just the slightest rub when I hit a big bump. However I did just get all four of my fenders rolled so now I don't rub at all and now my rears are ready for 295's.
