My Ride: E61 535d carbon black m-kit panoramaroof with beige nasca interior and wood trim. 172m rims. DimSport Race, SB, SAT
I got the 172M original wheels. Dimensions are
Front: 8,5x19 ET 18 with 245/35 R19
Back: 9,5x19 ET32 with 275/30 R19
I'll fit a 15mm H&R spacer on the back. Question is whether I should fit a spacer up front, e.g. 5 mm?
Here I'm thinking whether it will look better to push the wheels out a bit. Given that the ET is about the same when I add the spacer at the back; but the rear wheel is wider, I guess the front wheel will sit a bit deeper in the well than the rear so it might look more appropriate if it is pushed out?

I think your front wheel will be ok as is.
With my stock 18 inch wheels with ET20, I have a 5 mm spacer upfront and there are maybe another 5 mm left for a good flush.
Your new 172 wheel has ET18 and is 0.5 inch wider, that equates 2mm+(0.5*25mm/2)= 2mm+6mm = 8mm further out than stock 18 inch.
You might just be able to squeeze in a further 5 mm spacer to get it out 13 mm in total, but I would only do that after you get the wheels and are sure there is enough space.

So I have to move on. Instead I bought a more classic looking wheel which I hope fits well even with the avantgarde look of the e61. I "won" a set of:
Alpina Classic
Front: 8,5x19 ET 24 with 245/35 R19
Back: 9,5x19 ET30 with 275/30 R19
They were built for the e39 so center bore is 74.1mm and I will need spigot rings; don't know if I can get spacers for 72.6 with 74.1 mm rings for the wheels?
As to spacers, I'm thinking 15 mm back and 10 mm front; any thoughts? My concern here is first and foremost a fit without rubbing; not really to push the wheels out for a flush look.

Congratulations on the "victory" Just ignore the small hole in the bank account
On the front, its really the same calculation as I posted above - the only differenece is that you have 6mm deeper ET (24 new - 18 old). So, instead of 5mm spacer as discussed, you might just be able to squeeze 10mm in there.
On the rear - I don't know..

Front in principle, 5mm is required. I have read somewhere that it is a bad idea to use 5 mm spacers on a bmw, since they are not thick enough to have their own centerlip. Any comments to that? If 5mm is ok then I'd be happy to settle with that.

I am using a 5 mm spacer on my car. Its a Eibach one, identical to H&R afaik. No problems at all.
What you heard is that the spacer does not have a lip around the center bore, because the original lip on the wheel rotor is maybe 6-7 mm, so it protrudes through the spacer. Its a bit trickier to mount the wheel (less support than with a proper spacer lip), but once done its all perfect.
I am using the spacers both with 16 inch winter tyres and 18 inch summer tyres and I got no vibrations or any other issues.

Hey guys, hoping to kick start this old thread as there seems to be alot of knowledge here about fitment.
I'm looking at style 95s for me e61 msport.
275/40/19 19x10 rear et26
245/44/19. 19x9 front et26
I think the profile is slightly to big, but they come with new tyres and would be a shame to swap out for new tyres
Cheers

Style 95s have a 24 offset. That's too low for an E61 because they will stick out too far, especially for the tires you're considering.
