I just purchased an '08 550 sport and the previous owner scraped the 172 wheels and let them get pretty grungy. I've cleaned them pretty good but they're still not as nice as I'd like them to be. I'm considering replacing them with 172 rep wheels from Modbargains and then selling my original wheels. Does anyone know whether the 172 rep wheels look identical to the OEM factory wheels? Thanks in advance.

why not just get your oem wheels refinished/repaired?

post some pics of your current wheels, it'll help determine how bad they really are. Doesn't make sense to replace OEM wheels with rep wheels..

Good point, but I didn't want to have my car down for a week or so while they're being refinished. Now that you mention it , I guess that doesn't make sense. Must rethink this.

car down for a few days, get a rental or take a trip...it's honestly a better option IMO...money saved and you keep oem quality...what's not to like..

looks like you are in so cal, where there are a plethora of qualified wheel shops that can refinish the wheels..you could even get them done a different color...

again, post pics of the damage, depending how bad it is you might even be able to have a mobile wheel repair service do the work, thereby having very minimal down time if any at all...

GENEaTALS,
I'm liking the way you think more and more. I'll put pics up tomorrow. I had a mobile wheel company repair the damage, but the barrels are just not clean enough for me. I may have to take them off and really get to work on them. Thanks much for the common sense advice I surely needed. You too Tooltec!

I have 172 reps, but not just any old reps. Mine are from a German manufacturer, I have had them a year and I am very pleased. I hear that oem 172 crack and break but mine are perfect.
Why not buy an old set of wheels from ebay to use whilst yours are being refurbished and then sell them afterwards?

Thanks for the suggestion, I haven't figured out what I'm going to do yet.
