Did either of you try to access any E60.net forum pages between about 9:30pm Friday July 14th and 1:00am Saturday the 15th? If you didn't use the site during that window, your virus software isn't going to notice anything. If you did use the site during that time, maybe Norton isn't doing as good a job as some other virus programs...

I tried to access last night and received a notice from my Norton Security program indicating a problem. It didn't effect my computer as I have all the updates and feel somewhat secure and protected. In any event, I would like to thank you guys for fixing the problem fast. I continue to enjoy E60.net if only lurking in the bushes and chiming in when something strikes my fancy. Thanks again.

Yes, avast! is very good--and free for the non-"pro" version. I am using it on Vista Beta 5384. Still, I am glad I missed all the excitement.

Make sure you've got the timezones right, thats EST time. It could be also that your settings are set to just stop viruses and not notify you so it's working in the background without annoying you.

Good call on the time zone issue Mark, I'll bet that's the situation here. One minor thing to note -- we're on EDT right now, not EST so that's GMT -4 hours...

For anyone who wants to test to see what happens when you attempt to download a virus, you can go to http://www.eicar.com/anti_virus_test_file.htm and try to download the virus test files. It's important to note that these files are not viruses, just test files. It's also important to note that these files can't test to see if your virus software is up-to-date or not, they just test its operation. Everyone should periodically verify the dates of the virus signatures of their software to be sure it's current...

I realize that das is one of our resident Mac gurus (and I'm clearly not one) but I know that even with a Mac, you should be running some sort of anti-virus software because they do exist...

I've heard of a few viruses for Macs, but I've yet to encounter one myself or even meet anyone who has. When I first got my computer they didn't even have virus software available for it, or at least it was so hard to find that it might as well have been nonexistent. Although I do recall hearing that Norton just came out with some antivirus software recently. Either way, I think in order to get a Mac virus you really have to be a direct target, like someone basically has to single you out and screw with you. With a PC if you open an e-mail you're screwed unless you have the right protection settings and antivirus software. At least in my experience.
