Is there a reason why some members are not putting their location in their profiles?

I like to see where new E60 members come from, but sadly not many add their location to the profile so i have to guess from their posts or pics of their car (LHD/RHD)...

Is there a valid reason for remaning location-less I wonder

They probably have not noticed it. It took me a while to realize I did not have it when I first joined and had to figure out how to do it, not that it was hard. I am still learning how to do some things here.

I think that there might be a fear of being located/identified and a corresponding desire for annonymity. I suspect, at least, that if someone knew me, then they could figure out that I am doing the posting (e.g., my dealer)--not that I would expect a real problem to develop. This scenario seems more realistic, though, the closer one comes to using his or her real name. And, then we sometime post pics that give clues to where we live.

I get a little nervous sometimes. There is a guy on a non-auto forum from Phoenix that obviously does not like me, and he is absolutely nuts. But, at least I don't use such a "real" handle on that forum. Maybe, I'll change my handle. Heads up!

Ya some dont like the idea of offering so much info on the web. I dont like to show plates on the web... as thats VERY easy for someone to find your address. I use to list a more specific location but now I limit it to So Cal... as hoping thats a large enough area that crooks wont know that I'm in Orange County instead of Big Bear.

Forums are an easy target for crooks to monitor you and gather info at the comforts of their carboard box in the alley.

A while back there was a pretty well known incident that came up... someone was able to gather all the info of a member and located where they lived and stole their RX7 or somthing I think...

I mean more or less of the members here are decent people I think but its those lurkers that you can never tell...

Yes, the first time I posted pics I forgot about the license-plate issue. I quickly replaced them--with the plate obscured.
