PM error?

I am trying to send a PM by clicking on a username on a post. I type in a (long) message, hit send, and get;
"You must enter a message title longer than 2 characters.
This personal message has not been sent"
??

Look just above the area where you typed the message -- there's a field called "message title."
You need to put something in there before you can send anything...

While on the topic of PM errors. Why is does the [ quote ] tags get often unbalanced and then you've got to manually count all the close tags and add opening tags yourself.
