I'm not sure but I think BMW might not allow the use of 5series.net...

I think they "forced" (by sending some attorney warning letter) some other sites from using names that could be infringing on trademarks, etc.

Again, I'm not sure if '5 series' is trademarked but the bottom line is I don't think we want to make anyone at BMW angry.

First off, good work Mark, thank you

On the poll I went for the plural (5erforums.com)

5series.net would be even better, but it all depends on whether we would get issues with BMW like Rudy wrote above?

Can't we find out from BMW if it's cool?

I'll start a new poll next week. I think 5series is OK... I think BMW only gets upset if you use "BMW" in the URL. Rudy probably remembers when bmwm5.com was forced to change to m5board.com some years ago, as do I. I could and probably should and will get in touch with BMW to confirm if 5series.net is OK.

I would just use the domain name and not worry about contacting BMW first. If you use it and they complain, then basically you can just transfer the name to them and there wont be a problem. If you ask and they say no, then rightly or wrongly, then your basically out of luck.

Just my .02....

If you're going to spend time and effort setting up a new domain then it would be a problem if BMW turned around declared you can't use it later. Any copyright attorneys here??? The BMW rep sometimes appears on this site...maybe they can suggest who the right person at BMW to contact.

So provided that ends up being ok... will the poll look something like this?

5erforums.com

5erforum.com

5series.net

My vote is for 5erforums.com. Great idea Mark!

*edit* Now that I've had time to read the entire thread, I agree that 5series.net is probably the best.

5series should be OK, since BMW is not used in it.
