Hey Guys,

There have been occasions where the max users online would set a record at some crazy amount like 400 or 500 users and I've finally found out why. Today I was online while this was occuring and I checked the user list. There was tons of connections from the same x.x.* IP range which belonged to yahoo.com so it was their search engine spidering around very heavily. Everytime I see this happen I reset the record back to what it was.. but atleast we've finally figured out why it happens.

Actually, I think that spider is a friendly one. The more search engines that index the site, the more new hits which would result in the forum's continued growth....

What is the dynamic for pages getting indexed? Can the spiders crawl the SQL data? I have only seen low-fi versions of pages come up on google.

 

Unless I'm mistaken, I think the low-fi versions are the only one's that can get indexed but wouldn't the spiders still show up as a user?

 

I have seen forum members join for my parts CD as well. Some how my site comes up on search engines with the parts cd. They join and pm me. I don't reply back though. They have to have so many hits before I send any info. E60's only!

 

I had some "vid searching" spider hit my site. It registered almost 1,000 user sessions in one day. Dosen't happen often though.
