Well said and thank you for adding to the discussion. Damn that E60!

Before the last few days, I think some of the whores thought their actions weren't bothering anyone but now it's clear -- since many are becoming vocal about it -- that it is, in fact, bothering people. I sense a change in the air and I'm encouraged by what's been transpiring lately...
rudy i am encouraged.. that YOU are encouraged..lol.. seriously

No need to list them, you're talking about all the guys in your sig pic, right?

Since I browse the site from work, I've disabled avatars and signatures. I just saw it on his profile

Hi Pennetta, as one of your co-contributors to that particular thread I really don't think that's the kind of thing that's the subject of the current concerns. No one went over the line in that thread, there were no personal attacks or the like and everyone was respectful. There were differences of opinion, sure, but they were expressed appropriately, intelligently and respectfully. I certainly had no sense that the posts there from you, me or most others were of the type that we're seeing so much of lately, and I think you're being too hard on yourself there.
Having been in that discussion as well I still have nothing but respect for you Pennetta and swajames, it is discussions like that one that kept me interested in the site. No matter how frustrated any of us were trying to get our point across there was nothing outside of a friendly disagreement.

I think there is a perceived competition to acheive the most posts in a day and the most posts in a short time period, I've been guilty of a fair number myself and apologise. It also seems that many of the threads almost become chat room like. Perhaps we would be better served by having live chat rooms discussing inane topics leaving forum posts to those more substantial. While I apreciate a joke here and there and some off topic discussions the NSFW pictures seem ridiculously unnecessary, typing "porn" into any search engine will return enough immages to get you through a box of kleenex.

While it's possible to ban members that break the rules or continually go to far with the current setup, banned members can quite easily come back. A subscription will probably turn off many potential members more so than returning offenders. I feel it would also have turned me off signing up for the site had it been in place back then. The only alternative is to perhaps define stricter rules for threads and enforcing those, that puts a lot of work on the Mods however.

I'm not sure the best solution but no matter what, I will probably be here for a long while.

** Edit: I now see the "rules" thread and glad this is being addressed.

I think, and I know I'm repeating myself here (but I can't keep track of all these parallel threads about this crap), the solution is a simple one. The "problem posters" need to get a clear message and that message can be delivered not only by mods and admins but from the general membership as well.

This thread and some other recent ones like it are a perfect example of what can happen when multiple [mature] people voice their opinions about something. The more people who offer their thoughts, the more the message is driven home to the offenders. When an offender crosses a line or decides to "try us on", then report the post and allow the mods/admins to do their thing.

The main reason I think this will work is that in just a couple days, it's already worked wonders! I know were not 100% back where most of us would like us to be but it's clearly a start and we're heading in the right direction. We all need to set the expectations high then strive to meet those expectations. Those that can't keep up will be easily noticed and dealt with accordingly.

maybe a hybrid approach would be a good idea.

>subscription will allow you read/post access to all. including lounge, classifieds, etc.
>subscription payment will be through paypal (since you cant register under more than one name), will only be .10
>non-subscription allow you READ ONLY in lounge/classifieds/ with a max number of 7 posts/PMs per day and a smaller message box.

forum benefits:
> experience less posting traffic from non-subscribers
> 10 cent subscription is low enough not to discourage new members
> even if a non-subscriber is a nuisance, hes only a nuisnace @ 7 posts per day to certain areas
> if a subscribed member is blocked, and tries to subscribed again, he will be denied since his paypal account will be blocked also.

basically you will have 2 user groups:
>verified(paypal) member with all acess
>non-verified member with limited acess.
If a non-verified member is banned, and comes back, so waht? he cant post to the classifieds/lounge and his postings are very limited.
If a verified member is banned, he can only come back as a non-verified member with limited access.

the above is just my suggestion and you can tweak it to your liking, i.e. the subscription fee can be less or more.

As one of the trouble-makers, allow me to testify (unless the lynch-mob has made its mind up): IF - IF - any of the members/admins/mods tell me to tone something down/cut out a certain type of behavior, it is DONE. I'd like to think that I don't push past the point where people are annoyed, but if I ever do/did, it is/was ONLY due to lack of feedback coming my way. Therefore, short of banning half the active members, the best thing - IMHO - we (or you - not sure if I've been banned yet ) can do is to simply PM the offenders telling them to cut it out. If that doesn't work, report. And if that fails as well - ban.

I consider many members on here... actually, I consider ALL the members I interact with on this forum my friends. And I would never knowingly offend any of you/get you in trouble/make you feel uncomfortable. But when the whole world is shifting out of focus and this forum - I'm sorry to say - is no exception, it is best for friends to come out and say "V, you're outta line!" (or something to that extent). I don't much appreciate members "retaliating" by reporting me prior to even telling me that it offends them. My reaction to that is a feeling of being betrayed, as in "if we're friends, why don't you come to me directly and tell me what bothers you?!"

Whatever happens going forward, I am thankful to all of you on this forum.

...
I have to admit you're right.

Today I have PM'ed you and reminded you on the rules, and you IMMEDIATELY announced in PUBLIC you will not post such threads again.

Now, if you rethink the SIZE of your signature pic...
I know there are others with more troublesome signature pics.
But a bit smaller would be nice. I use a 22" wide screen monitor and your signature pic takes up a third of the screens height.
