Maybe I missed Mark's (Lomag) post when he changed the site around, but how do you do a search on the forum now? When I click on search and drop my keywords into the search box, it gives me an error message.

Nevermind. I realized my keywords were too short. That kinda sucks. If I want to search on "M5" or M6", it won't bring up any results.

Well, that's always been the case. And word three letters or less will return an error message even with the old software.

If you have a three letter search word, you can use an asterisk at the end of it as a wildcard. Usually that will work for three letter acronyms. For example, typing SMG* in the search box will return anything with "SMG". Also, don't forget to use plus signs ("+") before words if you want to include both of them in your search (a logical AND instead of an OR). Click here to see more search examples.

Another little secret that comes in mighty handy is to simply use Google to do the searching but limit it to this site. For example, you can go to Google and type any search words you want (by following the Google searching options) but just add site:forums.e60.net to the end of your search words.

For example, you can do a search on M5 by typing M5 site:forums.e60.net into Google. You'll get a ton of stuff because it'll pick up occurrences of M5 even in people's signatures, etc. so be careful what you wish for. Another downside to doing this is that it's not as simple to limit your searches to one or more particular forums like you can with the native IPB search engine.

Overall, this little Google "secret" can really help find stuff since the native IPB search engine can be finicky sometimes. The only other thing to be careful of when doing a Google search is that you'll often get the "Lo-Fi" version of a page as a result so you have to flip it over to the full version to see things more clearly. Also, sometimes the full version is shown in linear mode (or, as I call it: "Roadfly Mode" ) instead of standard mode so you'll want to change that back under "options".

Happy searching!

Happy searching everyone!

Rudy's secret search strength revealed. You are human and not a freak of forum nature. Avatars aside.
