I think this would be a good idea in the classifieds subforums only. I don't think we can restrict the open/closing of threads per subforum. It's restrictabl only per member group which would allow the closing of threads anywhere that we don't want. Hrmph... there's probably a way .. I'll search!
Excellent

Unfortunately this is not possible. I've checked it out and it's a member group option only which would allow the opening and closing of threads anywhere in the forum that we can not allow. Sorry! IPB 3.0 which was recently released might have more detailed options but I'm not sure if I want to upgrade to the newer version.

As with most new release software - it's probably best to wait until after at least the first patch. So, good call, but if we can get it in the future, GREAT!!

I?m not sure I understand this issue.

We surely have threads that need to be closed [some, after the 1st post] but if I want to search for an E60 subject I would want all possible old threads available to read through.

What am I missing?

I don't think anyone wants to delete the old threads, some are obviously very interesting. The issue was cases like classified section threads where we (meaning the seller) should have the ability to close the thread when the items are sold or the GB limit is reached. Some other threads (like pointless ones) could be closed by the mods if they chose to do so.

I'd leave the software program as is. The board runs really well with the current software.
