Track Day Power Steering Weirdness - Dynamic Drive + Servotronic
Had a great day at the track this weekend ran 4x 20 minute sessions with an extra hour lunch break between sessions 2 and 3. 2007 550i msport with 6mt and dynamic sport suspension was a riot at nelson ledges. Hit 125 a couple times on the backstretch.
During the sessions I had some idrive errors for the power steering system and would like advice. I have my suspicions what it is but will save them as not to muddle others opinions with mine.
Some things that may or may not matter:
car is on extra wide 200tw tires 275 front 295 rear
Battery is 4 years old, lead core
rear shocks and springs are new.
PS flush 2 years, 2000mi ago.
i recently topped up my PS fluid from min to maximum level.
Session 1 - car ran great, 15 minutes in the servotronic error appeared. After parking the car noticed smoke was coming from power steering fluid that overflowed from the reservoir and was dripping on exhauat. Fluid level was about 1/4" above max fill line
Session 2 - car gave servotronic error 5 minutes session start then gave active roll error 5 minutes after that. More body roll was noticeable and i parked the car. It sat for about an hour and a half during the lunch break.
Lunch break
session 3 - Car did well, servotronic error 15 mins in. Finished session and again noticed smoke from PS fluid overflow. PS fill level about 1/4" above max fill line.
Session 4 car did great, servotronic error at about 10 mins, active roll bar error at 15 mins. Finished session at easy pace with loose rear roll bar.
Drive home on the highway i got the servotronic error about 10 minutes in and no roll bar error for the entire hour drive.
Next day checked cold PS fluid fill level sitting at 1/8" above max fill line
Thoughts? Opinions?
