It sits in your ashtray location so that your iPod/iPhone sits in an upright position. It hides all of the wiring so that you don't have any wires running across your console. There is a power and ground wire that attach to the cig lighter in the console and the audio cable plugs into your aux port (or directly into an iPod connector if your car has it).

No, won't work. It has to plug into something (aux or iPod port).

this spec dock you sold me is broken. underneath it's glued... a piece
from the back is chipped off to probably from insertion or being
pulled. you glued the connector back on but it just comes off.

i asked you if there was anything wrong with it but you never told me
any of this otherwise i would of never bought this from you. not cool.
would like my money refunded back, I will ship it back to you on my
expense.

Replied to you earlier in email. The pics I sent you before shipping were taken as it was going into the box, not mis-represented. If you could send me a pic of the chip that would be helpful. The glue that holds the cable to the dock is how it is sent from 2point5, that's not something that I hacked together, I actually bought it from a vendor. I'll refund your money, I'm not trying to offload something broken for money, that's not me but I'd appreciate some pics of the chipped piece with the chip (if something really is chipped it has to be in the box, there aren't any chips or scratches on the pics of what I sent to you just before shipping). Thx.

I'll ship it back tomorrow the glue they used is not very secure connection comes loose.

The chip underneath is not a real big deal, it probably chipped when connection came off dock before the vendor glued it back. I'm more concerned about the glue and it coming loose. Longevity basically of insertion etc.
