Would I need to apply any modifications to fit them on an 05 525i? Also, how durable is the powder-coating? I have very limited knowledge in the wheel department.

With the right tire size its a direct bolt on for your car. Powder coating is more durable then paint. Its like the factory coating on your wheels so it will chip if you hit it hrd enough.
