This is a double edge sword and sometimes if the seller sends you a PM and tells you someone else is interested in the item, then this can be seen as a tactic to push the buyer and so the buyer may back out completely. Also the seller may have weighed the seniority of the two potential buyers and thats where you lost out. Sucks I know but that is life.

I have done some great deals with members on this forum and its a friendly place. I would treat your experience as a one off and move on.

A person's word should be enough if an agreement is made. I would think that most every member here would be upstanding and true to their word, those who are not, deserve what they get! I would also suggest you post in the "Buyer/Seller feedback" forum here, even though the transaction never occurred!
Well said Dave, I couldn't agree more

well the way i always operate is if someone wants to buy something from me but needs to wait til payday, i make them give me a deposit of 25% of the selling value

likewise if i want to buy something, ill give them a deposit so they will hold it for me

I cant tell you how many people ive had want to buy something from me and drag me along for weeks simply not to respond to pm anymore, then when i sell it they get up in arms about the fact that i sold it and they had dibs on it

sorry to hear about the trouble. +1 on checking the buyer and seller feedback section of the forum.

That's very reasonable and a great idea. I would have been willing to do that if he offered. Thank you all for the feedback when I get home from work I will post my experience in the feedback section

BTW did you get a chance to ship me the RPI scoop I bought from you yet? thanks!!

If cash is king, then the seller should refrain from promising to hold items. If cash is not king, then he should stick to his promise!

The seller needs to make this clear and not use marketing tactics to guarantee sales!

Simple

On internet forums, all you really have is someone's word and if an agreement is made then I feel it would be binding. In this case, if he agreed to let you wait till payday then he should have stuck with his commitments.

Who is it?

you have to look at the flipside of the coin. i'm sure there have been many instances where a buyer has said he needs to wait till he gets the money, and then never comes through.
whoever shows up with the money first, gets dibs in my opinion.

Have the money ready if you're going to make a purchase. We don't offer layaway plans on this forum. If you didn't get your allowance from your parents yet, don't tell the seller to hold onto it for you until you do.

I disagree. If the seller agreed to wait, then he should have waited. If he's not comfortable with it then he should have noted that if another buyer came up then there's a chance he would sell it.
