I guess there are some lessons here for all of us.

Spooler, honestly, I wish you had told me then what you just told us all now. I certainly did not expect you to spend $300 out of the $750 you were getting for the seats on shipping. Had you said something to me about that, I would have worked with you. Perhaps I could have helped explore other shipping options, given that your time is limited. I would have been more than willing to do that. Unfortunately, and perhaps because of your schedule, the situation was that I was having to call you 2 or 3 days after every missed shipping date in order to find out what had happened...which kind of set us up for this.

It was my understanding that when you dropped the seats off, tracking numbers would be e-mailed that afternoon. When I again didn't hear for 2 or 3 days, for the first time I really began to wonder what was going on. When I couldn't find the shipment in the system, that was when I gave up...and the Mr. wigged out. I didn't ask him to call and intimidate you. I did want him to hear the story from you himself, because I wanted to believe it was ok, but even as I was relaying the chain of events to him, I had to acknowledge it sounded weak....and things went downhill from there. Not of my choosing, I assure you.

When you told the Mr. that you would send a copy of the receipt and then didn't, that didn't look good, and that is what led me here. And even then, as Rudy can confirm, I really didn't want to start this process. I'm saying all this in part because I don't want anyone to think I go around shooting vendors capriciously nor do I want to paint someone undeserving in a bad light.

As far as the shipping costs go, it's confusing to me because $200 was the cost of shipping I was given for shipping seats from California. There was even someone on the forum who bought some of these seats for $450 shipped! And I think $180-$200 was the most I saw listed as a shipping cost for seats on e-Bay. So, that's where I came up with $200 as ballpark, and I genuinely thought that was a fair offer. I didn't think you would have to spend much more, if anything, to get them here. Perhaps there are some better options out there, is all I'm saying. And, with a little more disclosure, even in a situation like this...no one has to go away unhappy.

So, I think that's all I have to say about this at this point.

 

I'll only add that I confirm what BMRMEUP is saying -- she told me she did not want to "start anything" but chose to let me know about the situation privately because I think she felt lke she was running out of options.

I put the public warning up right away to help protect other members (in case this was another quad_m situation) but I also PM'd Spooler with a link to my warning asking him to respond. Funny how the power of the forum caused him to immediately respond, even while he was out of town at a conference, but for some reason BMRMEUP was having trouble resolving the situation before then... I can't say what would have happened if I hadn't posted the public warning but I guess the bottom line is that it probably didn't hurt anything and it gave everyone a chance to help tell their side and work toward a resolution.

Spooler, assuming you've refunded the money, I'm glad you made things right. As I said before, I think you could have handled this situation a bit better to allow the buyer to have a bit more confidence with an internet transaction. If the shoe was on the other foot, I'm betting you'd have acted in a similar way. (The fact that you explained why you chose to keep your trucks on the road and rent a van indicates you care about your money just as much...)

If you plan on continuing to sell things on this forum, I hope you will learn from this situation and realize that good, clear, honest communication is key to maintaining a good reputation!

Funny how the last time I PM'd him, he responed almost instantly even while out of town at some towing conference he was attending in Baltimore. Earlier today, I PM'd him about this and he hasn't yet responded (nor opened it...)

This could get interesting...

 

So far, Spooler has not returned here, not opened my PM, and not returned to the other board he frequents. As far as I know, he still hasn't refunded the money to BMRMEUP as he promised.

If anyone who's already dealt with Spooler wants to help, please contact him and let him know we're waiting for his reply (as well as the refund to BMRMEUP.)

No updates as far as I know. I think Spooler has gone the way of quad_m and is in hiding somewhere...
