Hi, This is my first posting.
I am looking to replace our e39 540 with a 550.
I have found a one owner 2006 550i with 25000 miles for 29K from the original owner. claims never seen snow etc.

seems like a good deal but its out of warranty.

I am pretty able mechanically but it sounds like do it yourself items are pretty limited with e60. the e39 seemed to need a fair amount of repair compared to my porsche 993.

thanks for your input... peter

Prices for an extended warranty seem reasonable even through BMW. Get a quote to extend it however long you plan on keeping the car. Since some repairs on an E60 can run into literally thousands of dollars, and even minor things can add up to $1000-$1200 visits at times, the warranty will almost surely pay for itself. I know mine has.

Hope this helps.

that is the route I went. Found an 06 550i sport 6spd back in December with 18k miles on it. it was mint. paid $31k, had 3 months of warranty. taking the risk on warranty. we will see how it works out in the long run. I will do oil changes, filters, brakes, etc. myself.

thanks for the information.

I really cant find much on E60 forums. All of them seem to just have a few postings. is this cause
- i havent found the right one?
- nothing hardly ever goes wrong ?
- no point- cant fix it anyway- has to go to the dealer?
