i think you should keep the v1 until you're sure you like the escort. i've had friends who switched to escort and ultimately went back to the v1.

the sound is really annoying. i would love to have one if it didnt sound so nasty. is there anyway i can buy a radar detector that maybe blinks only and no sound?

You can adjust the volume on the v1! It has a volume knob, I LOVE it. Everyone should own a v1, its seriously awesome. I've picked up cops like 4 miles away over hills. Its insane.
