Filter is the first step to make the car breath better, so the engine will work more efficient...
I have used aftermarket filters/intake systems in all the cars I have driven.
Give an example, my Sentra SER, before aftermarket filter, traveling steady at *cough *cough 80MPH on HW, the engine usually rev around 3300RPM.
With an aftermarket filter, at the same speed, the engine usually reve 100 RPM less.
And when I did a header swap, which removes a pre-cat on the path, RPM drop to just above 3K.
So, although the car was never dynoed, it's cleared to me that engine is now more efficient at making power so it can pull the car to the same speed at lower RPM, which in terms also improve the MPG as well... (however, more power usually equates to heavier foot, so... not sure about $$ saving)
I am hoping to see the similar magic as I go down my path improving the engine efficiency, however, I do believe BMW's I6 is already a very efficient engine, so, we shall see.
Again, the filter came in perfect shape, however the box was half crushed, so I am glad filter was OK.
Thank you Brett again~
