So this adaptor is straight plug and play, but you need to control the music from the ipod and not the idrive right?
If so, where do you plug this into the car?
If so, where do you plug this into the car?

khm... can I just come out and say that this is NOT the iPod interface adapter - this is just the wire to connect your iPod/iPhone to an already existing adapter in your vehicle!
This is not a plug and play unit for cars that do not already have both:
a. mp3 enabled
b. auxiliary input/USB port
I've been looking in on this thread for a while and am surprised no one called OP on this.
GL with the sale, but I'd be sure to call things what they are.
